Due to the cold weather, hydrant flushing has ended for the season. Thank you for your patience during the last few months. Flushing hydrants is an important part of maintaining water quality.
Why is hydrant flushing important?
- Removes sediment that may slowly build up on the inside of the mains
- Improves taste, odor and color from naturally occurring build up
- Maintains proper distribution system operation. Flushing requires the opening and closing of hydrants and valves to ensure that water moves through pipe segment for effective cleaning.
- Provides Water Operators with the opportunity to identify broken or inoperable valves and hydrants which is important to ensure they work properly in an emergency
